This application is a small and powerful video downloader and converter. YTD Video Downloader allows you to grab online videos from multiple sources and convert them to half a dozen formats. The software also offers basic video editing and a simple built-in video player.

YTD Video Downloader can rip video files for direct download from numerous media platforms. The official site includes a complete list of compatible video sites.

However, some of the sites listed are no longer available online. In addition, many of the sites listed require the Pro version of the application. This includes some of the most popular video platforms such as YouTube. This severely limits the functionality of the free version.

Simple interface

Visually, the program is simple. You won’t find any fancy bells and whistles here. It’s a robust interface organized in intuitive tabs with powerful options and clear labels. You will have no problem finding what you are looking for.

However, the app is not very efficient when it comes to defining Free and Pro features. Unavailable features are not grayed out or otherwise separated, which may seem tedious at first. The free version is supported by ads, which can be somewhat intrusive to users.

Video conversion and publishing

Both the free and professional versions of YTD are capable of video conversion and basic editing. The “Convert” tab accepts any video files. You can choose from a range of target video formats. These include AVI, MP4, Apple Quicktime MOV, WMV, PSP Video and a few others.

Limited usability

YTD Video Downloader is a suitable tool for capturing video files online. However, the free version of the software has very limited uses. Only a few of the sites listed are currently live and available without the Pro version.

These include the likes of Vimeo and Facebook, but not YouTube. The latter is available exclusively for Pro users.
