MATLAB takes its name from the “matrix laboratory” because it is both a multi-paradigm computing environment and a proprietary programming language. The platform was developed by MathWorks to provide users with an environment for processing matrices, plotting data, and creating various user interfaces. This includes a set of tools with the MuPAD engine where users can access symbolic computing capabilities. Launching MATLAB

The >> symbol indicates that the program can process the values ​​you assign to variables. You can also debug M-files in the command window. Just click the Debug button on the menu bar and wait until the K>> prompt appears. The menu bar also allows you to remove the default toolbar so that its interface can be thought of as a simple command line.

You can get the command line code from the workspace. It contains variables created by you or imported from other programs. It is important to note that variables are not saved by default. If you need data for multiple sessions, you must save it as a compressed .mat file or MAT file. You can then upload the file to the platform whenever you need it.

Compatible with MAT and M-files

MATLAB has two native file extensions: .m and .mat. An m-file is a simple text file in which you have placed all of your MATLAB commands. When you open this file, the platform will automatically read the commands and run them exactly as you typed them. This means that it will follow the sequence given in the prompt. You can convert this script file to .mat format to handle more varied codes, and to .txt, .mex, and .c files to make it more accessible to other programs.

MAT files are more complex than M files because they are a binary data container that includes variables, functions, arrays, and other codes. This file format also has more features than script files, such as handling 2D matrices and character strings, multidimensional numeric arrays, 64-bit floating point numbers. If you need to organize your code, you can convert the .mat file to a .csv file. This will allow you to see the code cell by cell.
