SoundTap Audio Recorder is a tool that allows you to freely record almost any sound played on your Windows computer to mp3 or wav files.
This little gem of a program will allow you to record streaming radio or music, VoIP calls such as Skype, conference calls and even instant messaging conversations. Simply put, if you hear audio through your speakers, SoundTap can record it for you.
Installation is simple and straightforward, and the user interface looks good and works well. You can turn SoundTap on and off at will so that it only records what you want, when you want it. The software is fast and lightweight and comes with its own audio player if you want to use it instead of your regular audio player.

One of the key points and best use cases is recording VoIP or conference calls where users can record their own voice as well as someone else’s. While not required, this is a nice little addition. It also works offline, which is nice. However, SoundTap is just as good for recording any other type of audio you want to record. To use SoundTap, just download it and hit REC.
Key Feature:
- Records any sound that you can play on your PC.
- Small setup.
- Simple and user friendly interface.
- Free for non-commercial users!
- Recordings can be easily searched by date, time, duration or format.
- Saves audio directly to wav or mp3 but has 20 different formats to choose from.
- Wide choice of codecs and compression options.
- Let’s hear you record (optional).
SoundTap works by using a nifty “virtual” driver directly in your computer’s core audio hardware to capture digital quality audio. It doesn’t matter how loud your speakers are or whether you’re wearing headphones, because the recording is done directly through your Windows and hardware.
It can also directly connect with WavePad Sound Editor software and Switch MP3 converter, making audio file editing much easier.
We found that the overall quality of the audio we recorded was high, but some users have reported intermittent issues such as crackling and popping. We haven’t experienced this issue with anything we’ve recorded, and therefore have no problem recommending SoundTap to the wider web in general.
Although SoundTap Streaming Audio Recorder is aimed directly at users who work with audio and video applications on a daily basis, it is a very simple program that almost anyone can use, and as we said above, it is completely free for non-commercial users.
