Stronghold Crusader is an old game originally released in 2002 but has maintained its place as a well-made real-time strategy game. Many deprecated features found in the game have been removed in the HD re-release. There are seven Stronghold Crusader games in total, but many players consider this one of the best.

Real time strategy

Real-time games like Stronghold Crusader are difficult as you have to control many aspects at the same time. You will need to build a castle with defenses and siege weapons as you complete the four historical campaign missions. History documents the first, second, and third crusades, as well as several conflicts with other crusader states.

Unique units

There is a huge selection of units that you can use to participate in the crusades or to defend your fortress. These include combat units such as archers, maces, spearmen, crossbowmen, and knights. You also have a variety of units, such as an engineer and a tunneller, that you can use when besieging a fortress.

Build your fortress

An important aspect of the game is building your castle and choosing other buildings that you can use to increase your army or capital. You can create a dairy farm to increase food production, or a hop farm that brews drinks. You will also need to build a citadel or fortress, which serves as the last layer of defense against invaders.

Basic Graphics

Since Stronghold Crusader is an old game, it lacks modern graphics or high definition. The HD re-release of the game addressed this issue with a higher map resolution that allows players to see the entire map at once.

Characters

The campaigns have a well-crafted story with intriguing characters such as Rat, a boy who grew up poor but became rich. The game is challenging and requires proper planning if you want to survive the Crusades. However, due to its age, it lacks modern graphics.
