NSW Swifts to start 2020 season as reigning champions

Chris Symington, CEO of Suncorp Super Netball, said his hopes of finishing a full season in 2020 in Australia "are increasing cautiously".

The CEO's words come after the league informed the clubs that, for the time being, there would be no team training and that the athletes would continue their 12 hours of training individual by club until May 31.

Unlike Vitality Netball Superleague and ANZ Premiership, the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball season had not yet started when it was postponed on March 23 due to COVID-19.

It was originally scheduled to start on May 3 and a full announcement of its new structure and the way forward is expected in late May.

The Netball Show: Thirlby, Guscoth and Scholes

England Roses head coach Jess Thirlby, Dr. Layla Guscoth as well as Alicia and Paul Scholes will perform at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Netball Show.

"With the reduction of restrictions across the country, our hopes of being able to complete a full season of 2020 are increasing with caution," said Symington.

"But, to maintain a competitive balance in the league while the details of the season have been agreed, we have advised clubs and athletes to continue training alone for the next two and a half weeks."

"There are still a lot of decisions to be made regarding how and when the 2020 season will take place, as well as how and when all clubs will resume formal training, and the league will be able to announce all of this before May 31. . "

The league, clubs and the Australian Netball Players Association have agreed to 12 hours of club-led training per week, in accordance with player salary reductions. This decision was announced in April.

Clubs have also been asked to consider any quarantine measures when bringing athletes to the club from interstate states or overseas in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, in New Zealand, Netball New Zealand has confirmed that the ANZ Premier League will resume on June 19, following its government's decision to upgrade to alert level 2 COVID-19.

The season will run over an intensive 10-week period and all games will take place at the Auckland Netball Center, in order to comply with Ministry of Health guidelines to provide a constant and controlled venue.
