Disney’s Neo Kids smartwatch has nothing on my 90s mascot Yoda Giga

Disney and Vodafone have teamed up to launch Neo, a smartwatch for kids that features iconic Disney characters including Minnie Mouse, Elsa, and Buzz Lightyear. But the greatest protagonist of the watch is none other than Grogu. You already know, The boy? Baby yoda! Grogu’s appearance on the watch essentially makes him a more sophisticated version of a 90s-era Tamagotchi or Giga Pet, SlashGear Suggested: the virtual pocket pets that were so difficult to keep alive for over a week.

Seeing Grogu come to life throughout the day would be cute and lovable, but kids today will have no idea what a touching experience it was like to take care of Yoda in my day.

In the In the 90s, he had a Yoda Giga pet. My friends and I changed the time for our virtual pets to sleep during the day. If I didn’t, I would have to deal with Yoda and attend his Jedi training classes while I tried to learn Long Division and risked having the Giga Pet confiscated from the dreaded smuggling crate of children of my master. Ignoring Yoda was a bad choice. I’m an adult now, and I still have scars from the first time Yoda left me to ignore him.

Look at that smile. Everything is a lie.

It’s like that. If you don’t feed Yoda or clean his hut enough, fail several of his Jedi tests, or don’t do enough, he will leave you straight away because you disappointed him to the point of disgusting him. You would see him one day and find out that he was gone. No more Jedi lessons. No more wacky and anastrophic dialogues. Just GAME OVER flashing on the screen after Yoda says, “You have no patience!” Oh sure you can restart the game and try again, see how long you could make Yoda stay (for the thousandth time), but no matter what you did, it was never enough. He would always abandon you. same the instructions said

Yoda would “reject you as his apprentice” if your score drops to zero.

Maybe he was doing something wrong; After all, the Jedi tests were a bit difficult for a little boy. During one of them, Yoda would show you a shape, usually a circle, square or triangle, and there would be a covered shape next to it. Based on the shape he showed you, you’ll need to guess which other shape was under the covered square. You were supposed to “use force” to see through the bridge. I’m sure I had a role model, but I was a kid. I did not understand. You would think Yoda would help me, explain to me. No Yoda was meaner than my old science teacher, who told me I would never be a CSI because I had failed a chemistry test.

He had other Giga Pets and Nano Pets, but none were as important as Yoda. I would rather have my monkey or virtual cat die over and over than risk Yoda abandoning me because I wasn’t the Jedi he thought I was. Do you know what kind of lasting effect this has on a child? I am clearly still traumatized.

It might be good that kids who wear the Neo smartwatch have a happy and sweet Grogu on their wrist instead of a punishing and evil Yoda. I gave a great life to my other virtual animals. They were happy! Usually they died of old age. What did I give Yoda? Sadness and frustration. Children today have plenty to take care of. They don’t need to go through the defeat that comes with disappointing Yoda.
