In a recent interview with ColliderChris Columbus said he was “resolving some rights issues” involving a third party Gremlins movie.
I would like to do it. I wrote a script, so there is an existing script. We’re sorting out some rights issues right now, so we’re just trying to figure out when the best time would be to make this movie.
Later in the interview, Columbus promised that the Gremlins in a possible sequel would continue to be portrayed as “tangible puppets, not CGI.”
I would always do it the same way – I would do it as tangible puppets, not as CGIs. Maybe you … you know we had a frame-by-frame scene in the first one Gremlins, but I don’t think I use a lot of CGI in Gremlins 3.

There is interest, it comes and goes. You have executives who really want to do it, and all of a sudden, musical chairs. They went out, a new regime came in and they don’t understand it.
We will see how Alien christmas done with the folks at Netflix. We will see if they can embrace our sensitivity. We have tons of ideas to make it happen. So I hope there will be something in the future.
