There will be free companion software that will allow players to connect in local multiplayer with someone who has the full version of the game… As long as your friends have a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite and one person own the game, everyone can play too!
It seems to work in the same way as titles compatible with Play Play during the Nintendo DS era. The free version won't give you access to the full game, so at least one of you must have bought the real deal, but that means you can use multiple Switch consoles to enjoy it.
