Nintendo recruits Brie Larson and Awkwafina to extend Switch reach over Christmas

Brie and Nora

You could argue that all the money Nintendo is spending to bring the Switch to market this Christmas is a waste given that the console is selling like hot cakes and awareness is already very high, but it’s worth remembering that the hybrid system now has two rivals. Next-gen deal with, and with that in mind, Nintendo began releasing the kind of powerful promotional material that was common in the heady days of the DS and Wii.

Nintendo appealed to the Hollywood star and proclaimed himself a Brie Larson fan for one of his commercials, where he reviews some of his favorite Switch games.

In another ad, actress and rapper Nora Lum, better known as Awkwafina, shows why Switch has been a blessing during a year of lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The fact that Nintendo harnesses the star power of these individuals is nothing new: its ads have featured people like Beyonce, Robin williams (And your daughter, Zelda), Ant y Dec, Patrick stewart Yes One direction – but it’s interesting that he picked two female stars in this particular case, a possible move to broaden the Switch’s appeal in that particular demographic.
