A new Paper Mario game called Paper Mario: The Origami King has just been announced on Nintendo Switch and will be released in July.
In an announcement from out of nowhere, Nintendo confirmed that a new Paper Mario game, Paper Mario: The Origami King, is scheduled to be released on Nintendo Switch on July 17, 2020. You can watch the official trailer below, which showcases all the folding bits you'd expect from a Paper Mario game. It also features a character who is presumably King Origami himself, who writhes in a really cranky expression, which shows very clearly that he is the villain.
"Paper Mario: The Origami King offers a comic journey filled with puzzles, strategic battles based on rings, original characters and unique visuals," said the game's official press release.
The press release also confirms that people who purchase the game early can pre-load it from today.
In terms of the plot, this is what we have to work on so far (from the press release):
"It seems that King Olly, who claims to be the ruler of the Kingdom of Origami, has devised a devious plan to unleash his plan to double the world."
In Paper Mario: The Origami King Mario faces one of his most exciting challenges to date. Just when things couldn't get worse, King Olly tied Princess Peach's castle in giant colorful streamers and transported him to a distant mountain. He even turned Bowser's minions into folded soldiers and enlisted them in his treacherous cause. "
With the announcement of Paper Mario: The Origami King, it looks like Nintendo could react to the cancellation of E3 in the same way as Square Enix, which focuses on revealing individual games rather than on a massive display case.
Paper Mario: The Origami King will launch on Nintendo Switch on July 17, 2020. If you're interested, you can pre-load it now via Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch.
