PS5 owners play PS4 versions of their games without realizing it


You might want to take a moment to verify that you are getting the most out of your games on your new PS5.

PS5 early adopters find that their the new console sometimes defaults to the version of the PS4 games. Players are now prompted to check if they are running the correct version on their new hardware.

The new generation launches They are usually plagued with strange bugs and little glitches that make the experience difficult. The PS5 was no different, even with some big bugs that required console factory resets.

As a PSA for PS5 users, it’s worth checking to see if you’re using the right version of a game. You just bought a new console, you might as well be maximizing the power you’ve invested in.

Especially Call of Duty: Cold War Black Ops seems to have this problem. Activision support acknowledged this and offered a solution on Twitter:

However, this doesn’t appear to be fully localized in the latest Call of Duty. On the PS5 sub-reddit, a user noticed a similar issue with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion.

The main problem is that the PS5’s UI does not indicate which version it is using. Unless you’re looking for it, you might be playing around with the PS4 version and wondering why it doesn’t look / perform as awesome as it does in the trailers. In all cases, the same solution that Activision offers applies.

Getting a next-gen console is always exciting, and showing that the new graphics power is one of the first impressive factors to buy. It’s worth checking out and seeing if you’re getting the most out of your investment.
