A rare copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES is the new king of video game auctions, which sold last Friday for $ 156,000.

While much of that price tag is wrapped up in the nearly perfect quality rating of the sealed set, this copy of Super Mario Bros. 3

it also comes from an early production that saw the “Bros.” on the logo aligned left instead of right, which is apparently a big deal.

“Copies of this game with ‘Bros.’ formatted on the left side of the front of the box (above Mario’s glove), they are rarely sealed and many collectors have looked at them for years, but they often stay dry. the Heritage Auctions listing indicates

. “When you get a sealed copy, you get a huge premium over the latest ‘Right Bros’. version, because this version is considerably rarer [sic]. ”

The most expensive “good brothers” to participate in real estate auctions sold for a measly $ 21,600 in September of this year, just to get a feel for the kind of difference a little logo tweak can make.

In July, a sealed copy of the original. Super Mario Bros. for NES broke records by raising $ 114,000 for your seller. Super Mario Bros. 3 it now holds the record for the most expensive video game of all time, pending the finalization of this transaction.
