Netflix & # 39; Never Have I Ever & # 39; turns adolescent pain into comical happiness – TechCrunch

"Never Have I Ever" is a new Netflix comedy created by Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher, freely inspired by Kaling's adolescence.

The show focuses on Devi (played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), who is desperately waiting for a good second year after her father's sudden death: the clumsy attempts to get a boyfriend, lose his virginity and become one of the cool school kids.

In the last episode of the original content podcastWe are joined by Heaven32 writer Natasha Mascrenhas to review the program. While some of us had a hard time getting into the first episode (the weird narrative of tennis legend John McEnroe may have been a factor), we all ended up loving it – inventive humor, impressive support cast and skillful mix of laughter and emotional stories.

We were particularly pleased to see a story from the majority of American Indians who did not focus solely on assimilation and did not paint Indian culture solely as a repressive force to be escaped. Instead, it suggests that second generation children may have a more complicated relationship with the culture of their immigrant parents.

We also discuss a recent interview with Quibi founder Jeffrey Katzeberg, in which he accuses "everything that went wrong" with the launch of the coronavirus service.
