Lithium-ion batteries, such as those still used in MacBooks, degrade more quickly when they are fully charged or discharged over long periods of time. Unfortunately, desktop laptops that are always connected to a power source tend to stay at 100% for days or weeks, which is obviously not ideal.

battery boy is one of many apps developed to help solve this problem. It’s open source, free, has a simple design, and has two modes of operation that can be controlled from the menu bar. It allows you to limit battery power to a user-defined value.

In practice, you can use Lite mode, which handles everything automatically and tries to keep the battery charge as close to a certain value as possible, or Pro mode, which allows you to manually toggle both switches (it may take a few seconds) charging status to be updated). For Lite mode, you can also set the maximum deviation from a defined value.

It’s worth noting that the Assistant needs to be installed to provide the required functionality. This helper installs automatically but does not uninstall when you delete the application. To remove it from your system, you need to follow the steps listed on the project’s GitHub page.
