A weather widget you can add to your Mac’s notification area is certainly handy, but it won’t give you a lot of information. If you want more data along with other features, you have no choice but to look for third-party apps.

Forecast column is one of the better options and is aimed primarily at users who need very accurate and detailed forecasts. It can display almost any type of weather-related information, and offers tons of customization options, both visual and functional.

Start customizing everything now

After installing the app, there are a few more steps you need to complete before you can start using it. While you can skip most of this and configure everything later, it’s best to leave it out as soon as possible.

First, you should choose where the application should be displayed – in the menu bar or in the dock. We found the former to be preferable, both visually and in terms of ease of use. Next, you can customize the size of the forecast bar, the type of data to display, and more.

Detailed weather forecast for novices and weather lovers

There is very little weather information that is not displayed in the forecast bar. It includes temperature, precipitation, wind, pressure, humidity, visibility, UV index, sunrise/sunset times and even moon phases. It can even open the weather channel’s radar chart directly from the menu bar.

The forecast itself can be personalized to your liking. You specify what type of data should be displayed and how, and choose what information to include in the summary.

If you’re not interested in specifics, you can have the app display basic weather information. But if you’re a bit of a nerd, you can see all the fun stats in the menu bar. Just be prepared to spend some time setting it up.

Forecast Bar has as many features as a weather app designed for the average user, and they’re packed into a very intuitive UI. It’s worth noting, however, that most features are only available with a subscription, and if you don’t have one, a simpler app might be a better option.
