massCode is one of the most intuitive code snippet managers you’ll come across. It has a very simple UI, classic layout, keyboard support and organization tools, search, synchronization, and more. It’s Electron-based, which is a downside, but it’s also available on Windows and Linux.

Organize your snippets efficiently

The main selling point of the app is the way you can manage snippets. They can be placed in folders and subfolders, assigned labels, or split into pieces that appear as tabs in the code editor window. These make it easier to work with longer blocks of code or code that needs to be split into multiple parts.

Of course, a search function is also available. This queries snippet titles and codes, filtering available entries matching certain keywords.

Ace-based editor with Markdown support

massCode relies on Ace for your code editing needs, which supports over 170 languages ​​and provides syntax highlighting for all of them. No matter what language you use, this app should support it.

You can also use Markdown, which also benefits from syntax highlighting. Previews can be generated using hotkeys.

Local storage with cloud sync support

All your fragments are saved in a locally stored JSON database. You can choose to move the storage folder to another location, such as an iCloud, Google Drive, or Dropbox folder, if you want to sync data between multiple Macs or for secure backups.

All in all, massCode is a powerful snippet manager especially suitable for cross-platform developers. It’s free and open source, and doesn’t store your data anywhere in the cloud unless you ask it to. It does suffer from not being a native app, but nothing is perfect.
