With all the hype and controversy surrounding AI image generation, one thing is for sure – the technology is here to stay, so we better learn to make the most of it. Stable Diffusion is an open-source AI model for generating image content and has a large intuitive GUI to use.

Mochi spread Definitely one of the most user friendly while also being very versatile and efficient. It’s a native app written in Swift that relies on Apple’s Core ML Stable Diffusion to ensure optimal performance on Apple devices. Additionally, it allows you to choose which Core ML model to use.

First things first: get some AI models

Unlike some other Stable Diffusion GUIs, Mochi Diffusion is not bundled with any AI models. Instead, you must download or convert the model you want to use. You can find detailed instructions here.

The advantage is that you can only download the models you are interested in, which is important considering how big they are. You can reduce disk space and bandwidth usage. After downloading them, unzip the archive and place them in a working directory (you can check and change this from the application’s preferences).

Generate images using text prompts

Everything will be familiar if you’ve used other Stable Diffusion GUIs. You need to provide a series of prompts, setting the number of batches and images to be generated, as well as the number of steps and guide scale. A lot of trial and error is involved, so play around with them until you get it right.

You can save or share the images you create, but no upscaler is included, so you’ll have to use another application to increase their resolution.

Fast and optimized for Apple Silicon

Image generation is a resource-intensive process, which is especially important when you need to make multiple attempts to create an image that matches your prompt. Since Mochi Diffusion uses Apple’s own Stable Diffusion Core ML implementation, it’s as fast as you’d expect on an Apple Silicon Mac.

While it doesn’t offer as many features as other Stable Diffusion GUIs, Mochi Diffusion excels in many other ways. It runs faster than other implementations, you can choose which model you want to use, and the user interface is very intuitive.
