Often it is very difficult, if not impossible, to find a list of all the general and security updates that are installed on your system. This can be important for troubleshooting or other purposes, but you’ll have to rely on third-party tools to get all the information you need.

system history is a small application that analyzes your Mac and finds a complete record of all installed system and security updates. It even includes silent updates and gives you detailed information about every file that has been modified.

View all updates installed on your Mac

After launching the application, you will see the UI divided into three panels. We’ll leave the one on the right for later, since it deals with specific files. The left and middle panels respectively show you a simple and complete list of installed updates.

In the left panel, entries are grouped according to system updates and displayed in chronological order. You can expand and collapse these lists to view more or less information.

In the center view, the app displays a simple list of installed updates, and you can choose to hide or show non-secure items.The font can be enlarged ⌘+ and smaller ⌘-and the list can also be saved to a text file.

See which files were installed during each update

Some updates are in the Install History.plist, which is what the other two lists are based on.However, the right panel shows all available information /system/library/receiptswhere you can find otherwise invisible items.

If you click on any entry in the list, a floating window will pop up on your screen showing all the files installed during that particular update.
