If you want to simplify your workflow, there’s no better place to start than creating and using some keyboard shortcuts. They can save you a lot of time and effort, and they’re easy to set up with the right application.

Thor Not much to do with Marvel characters, but it’s just the superhero you need to help you launch and switch apps. It allows you to create a global shortcut to any app in seconds, then run quietly in the background.

Shortcuts to all apps

Naturally, you need to start by creating a hotkey. The app doesn’t restrict you in any way – you can use any modifiers and keys you like; just make sure the shortcuts you create aren’t already being used by other apps.

If for some reason you need to temporarily disable these shortcuts, Thor provides the possibility. You can simply double-click the configured modifier key and the hotkey will be disabled for up to a second. However, that’s not a lot of time, so I hope the interval can be increased in a future release.

Launch and switch to a specific app

Thor works in two ways. If the app is not already running, it will start when you use its assigned shortcut. If it is running, it will be brought to the foreground.

This app is especially useful for people who use three or more apps at the same time, as it allows them to switch to the correct app with a single key combination.

Import and export your shortcuts

While your settings won’t sync across all devices, the app allows you to import and export your key combinations so you don’t have to reconfigure them on each device.

Despite its simplicity, Thor can have a huge impact on your daily workflow. Creating shortcuts is as easy as you’d expect, and once you get used to them, you’ll save a lot of time.
