Apple’s Calendar app is very easy to use, but unless you add widgets, you still have to bring up the main window whenever you want to check something, and not all Mac users like them.

If what you want is to be able to see upcoming events from the menu bar, today is the right app for you. It has a purposefully simple design that lets you check your schedule and join meetings without opening the main calendar window. If you want to edit or add an event, it lets you start it quickly.

Track your schedule from the menu bar

If you wish, the app can also display past events, indicate which calendar each item belongs to, hide or show all-day events, and even show when they end when necessary. Of course, you can also choose which calendars to track.

Join video calls and quickly access calendars

Fifteen minutes before a conference call is about to start, Today lists it at the top of the menu along with the remaining time, allowing you to join the call with just one click.

The application has no UI for creating events. Instead, clicking New Event or a scheduled item will open Calendar so you can add or edit events there. It’s all about making the application as simple as possible.
