There are plenty of apps for learning new languages, such as Duolingo, but they have limited control over the content. You could end up taking unnecessary classes in order to improve, wasting a lot of time in the process.

vocaburi is a language app designed to give users complete control over what they want to learn. You add the word in question or the word you want to learn, and your progress is steadily tracked with quizzes and statistics.

Your own personal vocabulary trainer

As I mentioned, Wokabulary starts out without any content. You need to choose your native language and the language you want to use and start adding words one by one. Of course, this makes it less of a language course and more of a practice tool for specific words that are giving you problems.

Each word has its translation, associated tags, comments and difficulty level. That way, you can organize them by type and difficulty, and add any notes that might be of interest. The search function can also be used to find specific items.

Complete quizzes and track your progress

Once you’ve added enough words, you can start the quiz at any time. These can include your entire vocabulary or just specific words filtered by difficulty or tags. Flashcard quizzes only ask you to memorize words, while typing quizzes also ask you to write them down.

When you get a question right, the word is promoted to a higher level of difficulty until it is marked as learned. Words appear more frequently at lower levels and rarely once learned. This automatic sorting method is ignored if you use a custom filter.

Statistics show how many words you’ve learned over time, and they’re a welcome confidence boost if you feel like you’re not making enough progress.

Great companion app for complex language lessons

Rather than replacing things like Duolingo or classic language lessons, Wokabulary complements them by allowing you to practice specific words while learning a new language. It’s easy to use and customizable, but while there’s a free version, the 60-word limit will necessitate a pro upgrade if you plan to use the app long-term.
