This is according to publisher Activision, who told investors: by Seeking Alpha – What Modern Warfare broke series records.
Notably, the company didn’t calculate how many copies it had changed over the past 12 months, but two-thirds of those purchases were made digitally.

The company also boasts that the Modern Warfare premium and Battle Royale Warzone free have “more than three times” the number of monthly players in the three months ending September 30 compared to the previous year. On PC only, monthly gamers have more than increased tenfold year over year.
“Across all platforms, the hours played in the Modern Warfare universe were approximately seven times higher year over year compared to the previous title,” said Daniel Alegre, president and COO of Activision Blizzard .
“We once again saw substantial year-over-year growth in premium game sales when Warzone gamers chose to upgrade to the full Call of Duty experience. Modern Warfare’s first year sales are the highest in Call of Duty history with two-thirds of lifetime units sold digitally and we are seeing continued strength in the franchise’s revamped game system with pre- crisp commands to the console and the PC game four times the level. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launched October 2019 and it was a brave reboot of Activision’s military sniper franchise. In our review we said that the game dares but doesn’t always win.
the Free Battle Royale Warzone released months later, in March of this year, and this is the series’ second attempt at the Last Man Standing after Blackout of 2018.
While both of these titles attract a large following, they struggle with racist content. Developer Infinity Ward has promised to crack down on this behavior in its shooters.
The next entry in the series, Black Ops Cold War, out November 13 and leads the franchise in the early 1980s. It will be integrated into Warzone in December.
