We have no idea how many times we click every day, and it has potential drawbacks. It can slow you down in some cases, especially when using the trackpad, but it’s especially troublesome for those with repetitive strain injuries, arthritis, or other medical issues.

auto focus is an application that can both improve your work efficiency and reduce the load on your joints. This way you don’t have to click when switching between one window and another, you can just hover your cursor over them to bring them to the foreground.

More efficient window management

The way the app works is very simple. When activated, placing the cursor over a background window for a user-defined period of time (0.05 seconds by default) will select that window and bring it to the foreground. You can also have it show all of the application’s windows, not just the selected ones.

If you don’t want the feature to be active all the time, you can configure it so that window switching only occurs when a modifier key is pressed.

Also works with Finder

Although this feature is disabled by default, AutoFocus can treat the desktop as another window, which means that when the cursor is on the desktop, the most recent Finder window will be brought to the top. As with other applications, you can also choose to bring up all open Finder windows.

There’s also a useful shortcut to quickly minimize all Finder windows. The standard macOS hotkey Cmd+Shift+M isn’t very convenient, but with AutoFocus you can minimize all Finder windows by simply holding down Shift and moving your cursor over another application.

Simple and effective

The application can be configured from the menu bar, but you can also hide its status bar icon and access it from a global shortcut by launching it from Finder.
