Using command-line tools isn’t exactly what most of us call the clamor. On top of that, the command prompt isn’t exactly flexible or overpowering, at least compared to macOS’s Terminal.

Flexible and user-friendly application with highly customizable UI

After you load Hyper for the first time, you will see a typical command prompt interpreter window. The user interface, while simple, looks a little chunkier than what you’ll find in the default interface. In the upper left corner of the main window, you’ll find a small hamburger-like menu. Click it and you’ll immediately get a set of useful options.

For example, from the File menu, you can open new tabs and, more interestingly, you can split the window in two horizontally and vertically. As expected, you can do this as many times as you want until you end up with the desired number of split view instances. In addition to the flexibility of the UI, you’ll be happy to hear that Hyper supports a variety of extensions and plugins. Of course, this means that you can upgrade the functionality of the app or even completely change its appearance.

Since it’s built with Electron, that also means it runs on two of the most popular operating systems, Windows and macOS, and, don’t worry, a Linux version is currently in development. That’s why Hyper isn’t exactly “lively”, at least compared to other similar native tools.

Before wrapping up, we would also like to point out that during our testing, for whatever unknown reason, Hyper failed to load default plugins and extensions.

Not perfect, but definitely a welcome and fresh take on command prompt

All things considered, we’d say Hyper is a very interesting application, especially since it was designed using Electron networking technology. It provides a very flexible environment (both functionally and visually) for performing all kinds of command-line magic.

Granted, it’s not very fast (at least in the current stage of development), but for users who often find themselves with a large number of active Command Prompt windows, this may just be the change they’ve been looking for.
